On 18 June 2025, Heartsafe was featured at the Citizen Science Fair 2025: A Celebration of Citizen Science in Brussels, an inspiring event organised by Scivil, European Citizen Science (ECS), and the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences.
The fair brought together citizens, scientists, NGOs, and policymakers to showcase how community-driven initiatives can create real-world change. Against this backdrop, KU Leuven presented the Heartsafe approach as a prime example of citizen science in action. The message was simple yet powerful: everyday actions by volunteers — from learning CPR to responding in emergencies — can be the difference between life and death.
By situating Heartsafe within the broader citizen science movement, the fair allowed us to connect with a diverse network of stakeholders. It highlighted how lifesaving skills are not just part of healthcare systems, but also part of active citizenship and social responsibility.
For Heartsafe, this was more than just a presentation: it was a chance to show how community engagement and scientific collaboration can empower people, strengthen networks, and ultimately save lives.
